Reno, Nevada

Reno is a city in the United States in the state of Nevada, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The city has 248,853 residents (U.S. Census, 2017). Reno is a communications and trading center with large tourist traffic, known for its many gambling casinos and rapid divorce processes. The city's state university from 1886 is Nevada's oldest university.

History

Reno emerged as a station town when the Central Pacific Railroad reached here in 1868. After gambling was legalized in Nevada in 1931, the city's numerous casinos eventually attracted tourists from far and near. In addition, the country's rich opportunities for hunting, fishing and skiing have contributed to an ever-increasing tourism industry. Nevada's liberal tax rules and the city's status as a free port have led many trade and distribution companies to establish themselves here.

The city is named after Jesse Lee Reno, a Northern States general who fell in the American Civil War.

Carson City, Nevada

Carson City is the capital of the state of Nevada in the United States, located 50 km south of Reno. The city has 54,745 residents (U.S. Census, 2017), and is beautifully located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada in Eagle Bay, 1440 meters above sea level. Tourism and gaming casinos are important trade routes.
