Louisville, Kentucky

Louisville is the largest city in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The city is located on the Ohio River, about 150 miles southwest of Cincinnati. Louisville has 621,349 residents, and is the centerpiece of a larger metropolitan area that also extends into Indiana with 1,293,953 residents (U.S. Census, 2017).

Louisville is an important communications, trade and industrial center. Shipping and shipping have long been important industries, and the city is especially known for the production of whiskey (bourbon). Bridges lead across the river to the suburbs of New Albany and Jeffersonville in Indiana.

Louisville has been the seat of the University of Louisville since 1798 and has several theological seminars. The Courier Journal is one of the oldest in the United States, founded in 1868. The city is named after Louis 16, whose troops supported the Americans.
